Our blind employee Martin sits in front of the Tactonom Pro, smiling warmly at the camera. The index finger of his left hand rests on the Enter key on the right side of the device. The index finger of his other hand rests on the graphics surface. The pins form a mathematical function in a coordinate system.

The Screen for Blind People

We believe that blind and severely visually impaired people should be able to access any information without relying on the help of others.

Tactonom Favicon
Shown is a detail of the Tactonom Pro’s graphics interface. Individual pins of the device are raised, creating a tactile flowchart. The digital version of the graphic is displayed opposite. The title of the graphic is “Support Process Flowchart.”

The Tactonom Pro enables blind and severely visually impaired people to access information independently and opens up new career opportunities for them.

  • More than 10,000 tactile points
  • 22 lines with 40 characters each
  • For long texts, tables, images, and other graphics
  • Camera recognizes finger
  • Price: comparable to an 80-cell braille display

Breaking Down Barriers

With the Tactonom Pro, it is possible to display not only braille but also graphical information. This includes tables, websites, floor plans, graphics, images, environmental maps, flowcharts, charts, formulas, shapes, icons, and much more.

We want to make a contribution to facilitating access to information for blind and severely visually impaired people.

Progress/Status

New actuator technology: To keep the Tactonom Pro with its huge number of tactile points affordable, a completely new actuator technology is being used. The development of this technology and the entire system has been funded by the European Union.

The Tactonom Pro is now being used continuously by selected customers and will then be made available to blind and severely visually impaired people.

Supported by the EU

The development of the Tactonom Pro is co-financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program under project numbers 828110 and 968187.
